@Tadaaki Kuwayama moved to New York in 1958 and have been constantly exhibited all of the world since then. He did a one-man exhibition at the legendary Green Gallery has turned out a great many talented artists of Judd, Morris, Flavin, Stella and others who were young and unknown artists in early 60s. After, he participated the several important exhibitions in USA and Europe in 60s and 70s and became to be one of most important Japanese artists with high reputation.
His paintings in the middle of 60s became to put the human emotional sign out of the surface, and in addition to make the metallic line into the painting and the frame. It was transfigured to the work not categorized ongpainting" already.
In the 70's the color is erased further from the surface. He might considered glighth which is most important for the human's visual appeal. All most works are with silvery metallic. Indeed he titled the works silver, yellow, brown, gold and etc. on his works, however viewers could not realize which colors on the canvas when they are front of the work.
There is an idea not significant for discretion and the identification of "thing" in the oriental philosophy. Moreover, there is an idea that doesn't admit even the existence of the thing as the object. It is expressed in "Empty", "Cavity", and or "Nothing".@Silvery metallic is referred as the color that exactly represents it.
Though I think Kuwayama doesn't consider it, but he said in 60s "The idea, thought, the philosophy, the sense, and the meaning have not furthermore entered my work even by artist's individuality. There is only an art, and it is it" This might leads to his reference in the 90's "I want to create an uncharted territory art where the people feels something when entering the space" This word is a challenge how Kuwayama could appear his artistic potential on his work.
The subconsciousness is quite unknown consideration that won't be recognized because it latent. The subconsciousness is assumed to be keep always transfigured. When the person who sees the work also causes the potential consideration at the same time, Kuwayama's art is accomplished for the first time. It might be approved if there is a great reliability between viwer and artist. It might be a virtually impossible task, but it might be only act which art should be art.
In this exhibition Kuwayama installs the works of gold metallic and silver metallic oppositely on the walls. And the six disc shaped floor pieces of silver and gold are installed between the walls.
It would be greatly appreciated if this exhibition is the contact point of Kuwayama's and viewer's subconsciousness.
